The COVID-19 pandemic, which began in December 2019, quickly escalated into a global crisis, impacting lives and economies worldwide. As the virus spread, governments enforced lockdowns, severely affecting key sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and services, leading to a significant economic downturn. The webinar aimed to explore these effects using a socioeconomic framework, focusing on unemployment, industrial production, and trade. After a welcome address by Principals Dr. Saktibrata Bhowmik and Dr. Subhro Ghosal, the speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Achintya Ray, was introduced. Prof. Ray outlined the pandemic's progression, from the first COVID-19 death in January 2020 to the WHO's pandemic declaration in March. He discussed the economic impacts, including reduced GDP, rising unemployment, and disrupted trade, while also comparing historical pandemics. To address these challenges, Prof. Ray suggested policies like digital transformation and investment in skills and preventive measures. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Subhro Ghosal.

The COVID-19 pandemic, declared by the WHO in March 2020, brought severe economic and social disruptions worldwide. In light of this, a webinar titled "Impact of COVID-19 on the Socio-Economic Fabric of India" was organized. After a welcome address by Principal Dr. Saktibrata Bhowmik, Dr. Shishir Roy introduced the speakers, Dr. Rilina Basu and Dr. Angan Sengupta. Dr. Basu discussed the economic challenges posed by the pandemic, highlighting a decline in GDP, collapsing demand, and widespread supply chain disruptions. She emphasized the severe impact on sectors like travel, MSMEs, and education. Dr. Sengupta focused on the social and psychological effects, addressing issues like migration, poverty, and the psychological stages of grief during the crisis. He also connected these challenges with government responses. Dr. Basu further analyzed the effectiveness of the government's policies. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Subhro Ghosal, IQAC coordinator of A.P.C. College.

The workshop on econometric techniques, focusing on the use of STATA and E-Views for cross-section, time series, and panel data analysis, provided a comprehensive overview of key models and practical applications. The first phase, led by Dr. Poulomi Roy, covered STATA's operations, ANOVA, multivariate regression, and hypothesis testing, with a focus on cross-sectional data. The second phase, conducted by Dr. Debabrata Mukhopadhyay, introduced time series analysis and its application using E-Views. The final phase, led by Dr. Simontini Das, explored static panel data models, including pooled, fixed, and random effect models, and diagnostic tests. Each session offered step-by-step guidance on using the software to analyze real-world data. The workshop concluded with vote of thanks from Dr. Subhro Ghosal, IQAC Coordinator, A.P.C. College, and Dr. Kamala Mitra, IQAC Coordinator, Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis Mahavidyalaya, highlighting the importance of these tools in econometric analysis.

The Department of Economics at Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a national seminar on "Analytical Methods for Social Science Research" to enhance students' understanding of applied econometrics and project writing, particularly in the context of the CBCS and NEP syllabus. The seminar began with a welcome address by Dr. Sayed Rafi Ahamed. Dr. Tushar Kanti Nandi, the first speaker, emphasized the importance of statistical tools, focusing on probability theory and statistical inference. This was followed by an engaging Q&A session. Dr. Poulomi Roy, the second speaker, covered undergraduate-level econometrics and demonstrated the use of STATA for statistical and econometric analysis. The final speaker, Dr. Rilina Basu, guided students on how to write a research project at the undergraduate level, detailing the steps from topic selection to drafting. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Subhoday Dasgupta, Associate Professor, Dept. of English.
