
The Department of Sanskrit was established in 1960 with the vision of preservation and enrichment of oriental learning, culture, philosophy and thinking via extensive scholarly research. The Honours programme in Sanskrit was started in 2001. The Department embodies a mission to encourage the usage of Sanskrit language and a way to improve the researches on the various fields with scientific thoughts prevailing in different Sanskrit texts. The experienced teachers of the department are dedicated for teaching of Sanskrit language covering various domains of Sanskrit literature like the Vedas, Indian Philosophy, Sanskrit Grammar, Linguistics, Epigraphy and Palaeography, Classical Sanskrit and about the occidental thinkers regarding the ecological balance, socio-religious life, philosophical exposition for the enrichment of the moral and social values.
