Two Days International Seminar on
Recent Trends in Science towards Sustainable Development

On August 6-7, 2018, the Department of Chemistry at Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, in collaboration with the Indian Chemical Society, hosted a two-day international seminar titled "Recent Trends in Science towards Sustainable Development." The event saw participation from 227 attendees, including researchers, academics, and industry experts.
The seminar featured keynote lectures, including a presentation by Professor Christopher W. Bielawski on repurposing polymers, and focused on themes such as green chemistry, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. Sessions covered advancements in nanoscience, catalytic organic transformations, and the development of chemotherapeutic glycoconjugates.
With 7 invited lectures, 33 oral presentations, and 128 poster displays, the seminar provided a platform for sharing innovative research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The event emphasized the role of scientific innovation in addressing global sustainability challenges and promoted evidence-based policy-making for environmental solutions.

On September 18, 2020, the Department of Chemistry at Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a webinar titled "Chemistry: In the Perspective of Today & Tomorrow." The event featured Dr. Priyatosh Dutta, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Ananda Mohan College, Kolkata, as the distinguished speaker.
Dr. Dutta’s engaging presentation explored the relevance of computational chemistry in understanding natural phenomena, bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications. His clear explanations enhanced participants' knowledge and sparked their curiosity. The interactive session that followed was highly engaging, reflecting the audience's keen interest and active participation.
Despite the pandemic's challenges, the webinar provided a valuable platform for intellectual exchange and discussion. Dr. Subhro Ghosal, the IQAC Coordinator, concluded the event with a vote of thanks, appreciating Dr. Dutta’s insights and the enthusiastic participation of attendees. The webinar successfully advanced academic discourse and community engagement in chemistry.

Chemistry behind Phytochemicals and Their Medicinal Importance in Curing Various Diseases of Human Being (Series-1)

On January 31, 2023, the Department of Chemistry at Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, in collaboration with The Bhawanipur Education Society, Kolkata, and funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Indian Chemical Society, organized a seminar titled "Chemistry Behind Phytochemicals and Their Medicinal Importance in Curing Various Diseases of Human Beings (Series-1)."
Prof. Binay Chaubey from the University of Calcutta and Prof. Amalesh Samanta from Jadavpur University delivered comprehensive presentations on the role of plant-based compounds in treating diseases such as cancer, viral infections, and gastroesophageal reflux disorders. They also detailed the mechanisms through which phytochemicals exert their effects in the human body. The seminar, attended by around 70 students and faculty members, featured an engaging Q&A session, highlighting the active participation and interest of the audience. The event was deemed a great success.
