The Department of Molecular Biology in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), A.P.C. College.

Date: 25.07.2020

The Department of Molecular Biology at Acharya Prafulla Chandra College organized a webinar on SARS-CoV-2, with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Saktibrata Bhowmik. Dr. Indrani Datta, Head of the Department, introduced the first speaker, Sri Bedadyuti Chakraborty, who delivered an insightful lecture on vaccine development against SARS-CoV-2. He explained various vaccine types, including RNA, subunit, and viral vector vaccines, emphasizing their role in combating infectious diseases. The second speaker, Dr. Ajit Bikram Datta, introduced by Ms. Upasana Das, discussed the structural and molecular aspects of SARS-CoV-2. He provided a historical perspective on coronaviruses, comparing SARS-CoV-2 with SARS and MERS, and highlighted the significance of understanding viral protein structures for potential treatments. The webinar concluded with an interactive session, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Subhro Ghosal, IQAC Coordinator, A.P.C. College.

 International Webinar on

Cancer and cell lineage commitment – A journey between on cogenesis and normal development and their therapeutics

Organized by

Department of Molecular Biology, Microbiology & Chemistry in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), A.P.C. College.

Date: 27.09.2021

The Department of Microbiology, in collaboration with the Departments of Chemistry, Molecular Biology, and IQAC, organized a webinar that began with a welcome address by Dr. Saktibrata Bhowmik, Principal of the college, who played a key role in organizing the event. Dr. Subhojit Ghosh, IQAC Coordinator, introduced the first speaker, Dr. Choudhuri, who discussed the mode of action of anticancer drugs. Dr. Choudhuri's presentation provided a clear explanation of how these drugs are synthesized and their effectiveness in targeting cancer cells. Dr. Santanu Roy, from the Department of Microbiology, introduced the second speaker, Dr. Home, who gave an insightful talk on cell lineage commitment, a topic well-received by students studying Developmental Biology in their M.Sc. course. Dr. Indrani Datta, from the Department of Molecular Biology, introduced the final speaker, Dr. Dhar, an alumnus of the college. Dr. Dhar shared his research on the mechanisms of liver cancer development, focusing on the identification of potential biomarkers and key genes involved in the disease. The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session and a vote of thanks by Dr. Subhojit Ghosh.
